!!Uniting Stanleans Worldwide - Now!! 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
I see that there is some one else out there to try and do something like me. I am a Stanlean from the Batch of 1977 (start year). Although I started a forum and photo gallery on several attempts like you, I had to close them becos there was a president and a member for a long time!

I have (am in the) process of forming another site, forum and fotogallery for our batch.

Simple suggestion: why cant we all unite to form a "meeting spot" for our Stanley? Which is probably what you are doing.

Did you know that your system has plenty of MySQL errors? You cant runa site and have conversations in a forum like this. Thats why you have over 38000 views on a single item of the forum with few replies. I am sure you are aware of this. The Mambo php software system is poor quality one. If you have asp or php skills, then its better to create a site on your own. If not, then invest on a single portal like the Invision comunity portal or DotnetNuke ...there are so many. But do reply if you have the time and space.

Best wishes,
Dr Murali Krishnan

Dr Murali Krishnan,
Thanks for the comments. I am indeed aware of the MySQL error message that pops up from TFSforMambo. I have narrowed down the cause of the bug to a few possibilities, and will fix them soon.

I dont think that is a cause for the low number of visits though. This site has been in operation for nearly 6 years -- and has survived a server crash when the hosting company had no backup when we lost our members database We have gained almost all our members back, but the reason we do not have enough visits is the lack of content.

I have some photos of Stanley, I will post them probably this weekend. A friend of mine, Murali from 92 batch also sent me a lot of photos.

Mambo is indeed a good system, but I am active with the Joomla project, which is being built by the ex-Mambo developers, after they split with the company that was building Mambo. I am actually awaiting a new version of Joomla later this month, and I'm testing some new features, and to move the site to a new faster host.

I can do PHP/JSP but I do not have the time to build from scratch. That's the reason why I'm integrating and customizing multiple open source apps as necessary.

In fact, you're more than welcome to host your class website on this site. A few classes are already doing this. Please take a look at http://batch88.stanmed.net -- they have been doing a terrific job. I can set you up with a MySQL database, subdomain and FTP account if you need. The server supports PHP4.

I will add a lot more features to facilitate exactly this type of multiple community sites on a single large site. Right now, each batch website is separate, and takes much work to build and maintain each. With the new architecture, it will be very easy to do this. Please check back in the beginning of February

Thanks,

Senthil.

PS: I did not understand when you said, "I had to close them becos there was a president and a member for a long time!" Could you elaborate, please?

Well done fixing the MSSQL bug fix.

In the meanwhile, I have opened a site for my batch of classmates from Stanley Medical college.
http://www.thebatchof7.org.uk

Of course you will not be able to see the photo gallery or forum for obvious reasons.

I would be grateful if you can propagate our site as a link in yours ...should I say ours?

Ours, yes sir. I'll post an article about your site on the frontpage.

Your site is not opening. Any problems?

Figured out the typo - http://www.thebatchof7.org.uk - I'll post an article on the homepage, and also link from the "People" menu.

Could you also link to http://www.stanmed.net from your batch site, please? Thanks.
