Everyone.net is our current email service provider. This company users a lot of obstrusive advertisements, and their services aren't as advanced as other email service providers.

We had recently requested Google to provide the email service for our website. This will provide us with more email space per user, and free POP (post office protocol) access. This will also give us other great features of the Gmail service. Your email address will still be This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it But the service will be provided by Gmail instead of our current provider.

Here's the catch:

Google has currently provided us only 250 accounts. But our current email service has more than 500 accounts.  Once we migrate our email service to Google Mail, you can read your old email at the current service, but you will not be able to send or receive mail.

We have already requested Google for additional 700 email accounts, but it can take a while (few months) before we receive this. So, we will create accounts for our members on the Googlemail server on a first come first served basis.

Here's how to request it: 

  1. Log on to your current StanMed.net email account at http://mail.stanmed.net  
  2. Send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with the subject line "I want google mail" (This email must be sent from your current email address, and you must type the subject line exactly as specified. Otherwise, your request may not be considered).
  3. The first 250 people to send us emails will receive accounts on the google mail server first.
  4. The remaining users will have to wait until Google gives us more accounts (upto a few months).
  5. If you have multiple accounts on StanMed.net, send this email from only one of them that you want first. If you send multiple emails, you will not get a google mail account.
  6. Google mail does not allow underscore ( _ ) character in the email address. If your current email address has one, it will be replaced by a period ( . ). Please update your contacts if this applies to you, once the Google mail service goes online.
  7. If a lot more than 250 users request this, then we will wait until Google provides us more accounts to switchover the service. But still this will be on first come first served basis.
  8. If you had created a StanMed.net address for sending spam emails (unsolicited commercial emails), please do not bother switching over. We have a zero-tolerance for spam.
  9. All requests must be received on or before August 4, 2006. This is one month from today, and we think this is enough time.
